Children's Depression Awareness Day
Mental disorders in children are just as real, common and treatable as they are in adults. Left untreated, children's mental health disorders can lead to problems at home, trouble in school and in the community, substance abuse and even suicide. Childhood Depression Awareness Day (CDAD) has offered our partners an opportunity to come together to focus on childhood depression and other disorders. On May 4, wear a green ribbon to draw attention to childhood depression, and use the materials listed on our website to raise awareness about the many mental health problems affecting our nation's children.

The Montana Mental Health Association works tirelessly for parity and to help reduce stigma through enhanced public awareness and education for consumers, family members, and professionals.
The "bell" theme is significant as it represents the huge bronze bell in the lobby of the National Mental Health Association in Alexandria, VA that was cast many years ago from chains and shackles from mental institutions across the country that were previously used to restrain persons in mental crises. The inscription on the bell reads: "Cast from the iron chains and shackles of the insane which bound them around the ankles and wrists, this Bell shall ring out hope for the mentally ill and victory over mental illness".
