About MMHA
“Educating and Advocating for the Mental Health of Children and Adults in Montana”
Who We Are
The Association is a statewide education and advocacy organization.
Our mission is to work for good mental health for all and for social
justice and quality services for persons with mental illnesses. For
over fifty years, MMHA has been dedicated to eliminating the stigma
of mental illness, to supporting programs and individuals who provide
direct mental health services, to improving care and treatment of
persons with mental illnesses, and to preserving the rights of mental
health consumers and their families. The MMHA is an inclusive organization
and welcomes membership from all interested persons. To fulfill our
mission, we rely entirely on the financial contributions of our members
and supportive gifts, foundations, and grants. Support the MMHA.
What We Do
Advocacy
The MMHA accomplishes its mission through broad based volunteer
participation, collaboration with public and private agencies, identification
with consumer interests, and active participation with decision
makers.
See our Policy Page.
Coalition Building
We work with all individuals and organizations that are committed
to better mental health services. The MMHA sponsors numerous mental
health related forums, including the legislative Mental Health Caucus.
We also support consumers and their families by providing them with
leadership training.
Educational Conferences
The MMHA hosts major statewide education conferences each year for
mental health professionals, educators, consumers, and the general
public. See our present and past events and conferences.
Public Information Services
One of our services is the dissemination of education and referral
information to the public. Through our website and toll free phone number, published
in all major Montana phone books, we assist with crisis situations
and a variety of other requests. Early in 2005, the MMHA launched an extensive public awareness campaign to broadcast our message of hope, understanding and acceptance. Policy makers heard a plea to make informed, compassionate decisions regarding mental healthcare legislation. Ongoing fund raising & development efforts support these & future programs to raise comprehension that 1 in 4 has a mental illness and to fight the stigma of mental illness. View our PSA's.
Reducing Stigma
The MMHA offers free educational tools and resources, including
brochures, videos, and tapes. We provide scientifically-based presentations
on specific mental illnesses and assist consumers with establishing
self-help groups. View our PSA's.
Free Mental Illness Screenings
In partnership with other professionals and organizations, the Association
sponsors free public screenings for a variety of mental illnesses. See links to Free Online Screenings & other resources.
Mental Health Bulletin and Alerts
The quarterly newsletter, the Mental Health Bulletin, includes updates
on public policy issues, recent research, and resources on mental
illness. Alerts are notices to members and advocates of current
issues requiring immediate attention.
